Inception - Mind blowing indeed

So I was saving this movie for one of my close friends. Unfortunately it was kinda impossible since he already had advance screening tickets and I was working that night, and other people wanted to watch it with me. So i felt obligated to watch it with them.

So here's the breakdown. There's this guy who has awesome skills of jumping into your dreams and technically steals, Leo DiCaprio. He's like your average guy, with a family on the side who he never sees, also whom we never see till the very end. Leo's offered the deal of a lifetime, implant an idea in some random guys head and you'll be with your family again.

Now, here's where the movie starts to get complicated. Inception - implanting an idea into someone else's subconscious. Inception requires to go in a dream, within a dream, within that dream. SO, in short, three dreams in total. Nuff said right? Easy enough right? Nothing is ever easy or simple in this movie. Which is what makes the movie was awesome. Yet, it doesn't exceed the boundaries of complexity. It borderlines overcomplexity and moderate complexity. So yeah, in short, it doesn't make you feel dumb if you don't understand it the first time. I could recount how many times I sat in the cinema, asking my friend next to me, "so which dream are they in?", "why is he there?", "what's going on?". And I can bet that I wasn't the only one thinking this.

On to the acting, SUPERB!!! Top actors and actresses remaining true to their roles. But I must say, best performance, by Marion. Despite her attempts at hiding her French accent, she was insanely scary, but in a good way. One of my favourite scenes, when Ellen Page enters Leo's dream of the night his wife (Marion) died in the hotel room on the night of their anniversary. The look of Marion's face as they continue up the elevator, and the way she just overshadows Ellen Page, BEAUTIFUL!!!

One other scene which caught my eye was the fight scene in the hotel corridor with JGL. Which brings me to the effects. FUCKING AWESOME!!! Words can't describe it! Seriously.

My rating .. 5 corn chips out of 5, 10 out of 10 gold stars! A+, all of the above.

Date Night- A Review

I went to watch Date Night yesterday with my work mates. And it was quiet a hassle to choose between this movie or How To Train Your Dragon which I have been hearing so much about. But considering it was for my birthday I chose Date Night =P.

So in brief, Date Night is about a suburban couple, the Fosters who wish to step out of their normal boring routine of potato skins and steak, waking up at 5am to make breakfast for their two kids and book clubs about girls have their periods in the desert. And they step out of the norm by going out to dinner in the big city of Manhattan at "The Claw" by obvioulsy taking someone else's reservations, which is frequently frowned upon throughout the movie by numerous people.

Alright, I expected this movie to be pretty funny. I mean Tina Fey and Steve Carell are big comedic names. Saturday Night Live? Like hello? Its stand-up comedy so you assume it's going to be a funny movie. I thought it was pretty funny. Not exceptionally funny, but funny enough to make my sides hurt every now and then. Then again I spent most of the movie laughing at my friend next to me laugh at almost EVERYTHING!

The D.A is pretty funny. His sick minded views and the broom, high-larious. Mark Wahlberg just reminded me so much of Taylor Lautner in New Moon, half naked in almost every scene. Well actually, every time he was shown in the movie, he was half naked. It was funny to see Steve Carell continuously ask Mark Wahlber to put on a shirt. All I could think of was New Moon spoof's =P.

There was one scene in the movie that made me feel awkward. Tina Fey and Steve Carell were sitting in the hot AUDI car (*droool*) and they were talking about how they managed to get stuck in this rut of steak and potato skins and how their friends were broken up, and classified each other as "excellent room-mates". The entire scene just seemed off and out of place. I kept thinking to myself, WHAT THE F***? Don't know, maybe because I've never really seen them play such a lovey-dovey role or a "serious" role. I just felt strange about it all.

Anyway, my rating ... 3 corn chips =D

Late I know

It's been a very long time since I last posted something up, and well I have seem to forgotten to update on my latest movie craze. Can't seem to remember when I watched it exactly but Shutter Island was exceptional!

It had the whole Prestige/The Illusionist twist in the end. Not going to ruin the ending for those who STILL haven't watched it after three or so weeks, but the whole dark and mysterious vibe was amazing. Never seen Leonard Decaprio in such an gloomy detective like film.

The movie was very psychological, creative and well thought out. Every part of the movie was twisted and played out. LOVED, Michelle Williams sadistic side and the recurrance of the quote, "why you all wet baby?". The kids were really creepy, but in a good way.

The acting was excellent. Watching Leo slowly and painfully creep into his mental psychotic state, slowly watching all the pieces finally fit together, why he keeps having these recurring dreams of his wife getting wet, why the little girl continuously says "you could have saved them all" WELL DONE!

Well my head isn't exactly working well tonight, so thats my review. My nacho cheeeese rating, 4.5 out of 5 corn chips =D

"I like your largeness" - Alice In Wonderland

For a Tim Burton film featuring his wife and his protege' Johnny Depp, I was highly disappointed and felt feeling unsatisfied.

a) Plotline of Alice going back into the hole into Wonderland, tad lame. If you watched the Disney version, you'd kinda of expect what was going to happen and in what order. It was pretty much like that here. Alice falls down the hole, meets the rabbit, the caterpillar, the cat, the Mad Hatter, Red Queen, etc etc. Very typical.

b) The visuals. Highly disappointed, was no Avatar in terms of the quality but still disappointed for a 3D movie. I expected more colour, more detail in the little things. There were some things I was quiet pleased with, such as the Red Queens castle and Johnny Depp''s amazingly enlarged eyes (which were apparently CGI-ed and enlarged by 10%). The cat was amazing! Well done, but overall, not as impressed.

c) Alice. Meh, does not meet the expectations to what she was all hyped up about.

d) Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. Not bad at all. Bit freaky every now and then with how graceful and poised she was, but at the same time, very entertaining and funny =P.

e) Drug references and Sexual references. Props to Tim for those, I think out of everyone in the cinema, I laughed the most at "i like your largeness" =P. And Alice going back into the hole, no pun intended ;).

So .. in conclusion, my rating, 2 corn chips

"Let's Get Naked"

So here's Valentine's Day in a nutshell. (SORRY FOR SPOILERS TO THOSE WHO HAVEN'T WATCHED!)

I was overall impressed =). My first impression was that the cluster of all these Hollywood actors and actresses would just overshadow the movie itself. For a romantic comedy, it had it's moments. My personal favourite stories were definitely Jennifer Garner with her "best-friend" turned "boyfriend" Ashton Kutcher and Emma Roberts with her high school boyfriend Carter Jenkins. Surprisingly, even though the opportunity arose, Taylor Lautner managed to keep his shirt ON the entire movie, but his friend, Carter Jenkins couldn't resist ;). And might I say, that boy has something going on ;), it takes balls to serenade your girlfriend naked in her room, moments before planning to have sex.

The Taylor's, even though I love them both, for different reasons, pissed me off the entire movie! The girl, no offence, cannot act! Even if she is playing dumb. And Lautner, well .. what can I say? He's like any normal teenage actor, still trying but not succeeding.

The whole "gay" footballer thing was funny. Topher Grace and Anne Hathaway were pretty good. Loved the whole phone sex entertainer aspect, funny shit! Oh and I got to add, Jessica Biel, SMOKING HOT!!!! Throughout the film you could connect everything so easily, for example, Cesar said the moment Julia Roberts appeared on scrren, she is returning home to see her son who is the same boy from the old couple story who is in love with his school teacher, Jennifer Garner. And I predicted that Jennifer Garner and her best-friend, Ashton would end up together and that Jessica Biel and Jamie Foxx would end up together. And David, sort of predicted that Patrick Dempsey was still married. Loved how EVERYONE was some how related to one another.

So to give my nacho cheese rating, 2.5 corn chips out of 5 =D

500 Days Of Summer

Nine - Be Italiano

Today I went to watch Nine with my dearest friend and other half Cesar. We've literally been waiting so long for this movie to come out, and what better day to watch it than on "Cheap Ass Tuesday".

In short, Nine is a musical centered around a director and his struggle to make a movie and the weird relationships he has with several women in his life.

Alright, I've been told that Rotten Tomatoes is a reliable source of information when searching for movie reviews. And majority of the ratings and reviews given for Nine have been so-so or not worth watching. In my opinion, if you like musicals this movie is worth watching. A friend of mine says Nine is just a pathetic attempt to recreate Chicago, FAIL indeed.

The highlights of the movie, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard. FUCK ME DEAD! Cesar and Ii both agree, that we were waiting desperately for a bitch fight between the directors mistress and wife. Penelope's solo, OH MY FREAKING GOSH! Everyone in the cinema did not take their eyes off the screen. I was getting goosebumps, I would have gone lesbian for her at that moment. And Marion's routine in the little sparkley outfit, HOT-NESS!

My favourite routine however was definitely Fergie's "Be Italiano". Nicole Kidman was in my opinion, forgetable. Kate Hudson can surprisingly sing, not that good, but good enough to be in a musical and not be ridiculed. Daniel Day Lewis has this smuck sort of funky vibe going on. The type of person that says I don't care, I'll do whatever I want whenever I want. Kinda turned me on ;)

Overall, I quiet enjoyed Nine. "Be Italiano"

2010 = new friends, new experiences, new turmoils, new trials, new triumphs, new music and new MOVIES!!! If there is one thing I look forward to in a new year is the anticipation of new movies and to watch the creative minds of talented directors all over the world.

If anyone realised last year, the entertainment world was filled with the vampire-craze. Whether it was the Twilight franchise, brain-washing young girls all over the world, or the mini-series of True Blood and Vampire Diaries. I believe 2010 is the year of the werewolf =). Enough pale skined folk who sparkle in the sunlight and feast on animals to survive, its the time of the werewolf, rampaging the night, howling at the full moon and transforming back into human form with no clothes on. WOO!

I got into watching Avatar: The Last Airbender a couple of years ago when I had to babysit my nephew. He used to always like watching Nickelodeon after school and it was always in this order, 3:00pm - Fairly Odd Parents, 3:30pm - Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius, 4:00pm - Avatar 4:30pm - Spongebob Squarepants, 5:00pm - Ben 10. Within those couple of hours I would either attempt homework or watching with my nephew. Avatar isn't such a bad show. The concept of the whole earth vs. fire, water vs. fire, air vs. fire theme was very intriguing. When I heard they were planning to remake the short series into a movie, I didn't know what to believe. How could they recreate Appa? Who was going to pay Aang? Can't wait to see what M. Night Shyamalan can come with.

There's no big particular reason why I want to watch Valentine's Day, I just like the whole "all-star cast" part of it all. I don't understand why a director would choose to make twenty or so "A-lister" celebrites working on the same movie. I think it destroys the true meaning of the movie with all the craze of the celebrites overshadowing the movie itself.

Beauty and the Beast was one of my favourite Disney films (after Little Mermaid and Aladdin). The new remake with Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Anne Hudgen suprised me. I thought, Alex Pettyfer could do it. He has that whole bad boy appeal to him, but at the same time the pretty boy with those golden locks. But when I heard Vanessa Hudgens I thought, oh my, this girl is never going to be able to venture out on her own without the support of Disney or Disney related projects or anything which won't show her true talent (even though I don't really think she has any). Her boyfriend seems to be doing well at it, sort of. But Beastly looks spectacular, Alex Pettyfer looks UGLY and scary.

Nine has been getting some bad ratings recently, so I don't know what to think. But the fact that it's a musical makes me want to watch it. Kate Hudson apparently CAN sing and dance, bit of a shock there to be honest.

Overall, I think this maybe an okay year for movies, not as good as 2008 and 2009, but still up there.
